Life can present challenges for children and adolescents and sometimes they may need help overcoming the difficulties they are experiencing. Dr Brooker can help you and your child with their struggles which may include:

As a scientist-psychologist Dr Brooker relies on current scientific research when working with your child in therapy. The strengths of each child and achievable goals will be a focus.
Dr Brooker currently charges $195 for a 50 minute session. However, with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be entitled to a Medicare rebate of $124.50 per session for 10 sessions. If you have a health care card or are on a pension, sessions will be bulk billed, leaving you with no out of pocket costs. The curret fee recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) is $228 for a consultation of 46 - 60 minutes duration.
As a Clinical Neuropsychologist, Dr Brooker integrates information provided parents/carers, schools, medical and allied health reports in her analysis. She can also use her expertise as a Clinical Psychologist where issues of anxiety or depression may be present. Dr Brooker focuses on children aged 4 - 16 years old and has a particular interest in children with a history of complex trauma. A neuropsychological assessment may include 3 - 5 hours of testing, and is usually undertaken over several sessions on different days to eliminate fatigue for the child. A comprehensive report including interpretation of the test results and tailored recommendations and strategies for interention at school and home are also included. A feedback session is also provided for the parents and sometimes, where clinically indicated, with the child.
As all assessments are individually tailored it is best to ring the clinic to discuss your individual needs. The following is an indication of what may be involved:
- Parent/Carer Interview - 50 minutes
- General Intellectual Ability Assessment (IQ) - 90 minutes
- Functional Assessment (including memory, language, executive functions) - 120 minutes
- Report Preperation - 4.5 hours
- parent Feedback Session - 50 minutes
The current fee recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) in $228 for a consultation of 46 - 60 minutes duration. Medicare rebates are not available for cognitive assessments. Some private health insurers provide cover. Costs can vary depending on the complexity of the assessment needed so please contact the clinic to discuss your specific needs.
